Earthquakes

Did you feel the earthquake at 12:02, Monday the 14th of November?! The earthquake was a shocking 7.5-7.8! The earthquake was near Kaikoura in North Canterbury. All of New Zealand felt it the massive earthquake. The earthquake was 2 together. It is the second biggest earthquake in New Zealand, the biggest earthquake was a massive 8.2. This is a photo of the damage near Kaikoura Coast:
The earthquake have caused severe damages to roads, houses and even people! The earthquake have caused 2 deaths. One from a building falling over on them and the other from a fright from the earthquake. Hundreds of aftershocks, some stronger than 6.0, continued to. The earthquake has caused a predicted destructive tsunami. However the biggest wave is only about 2m. Hundreds of aftershocks, some even stronger than 6.0, continued to shake the country. We hope that they recover the damages in the South Island.

End of Term 3

Hi! Lots of things happened these past few days in LAVA. Three of the things I'm going mention in this blog post is the Digi Awards , Interpret Challenge and my Passion Project.

Digi Awards

The activities we could do are digital photography, graphic design, animation or a short movie. I entered a graphic design. I called my graphic “Go For It”. This is my graphic design:

Interpret Challenge

The Interpret challenge had 4 scenarios. The scenarios were: What would you do if Palmerston North rose 20 degrees higher?, All the trees were decimated
And there were no trees?, All the native birds died out and The e-Coli from Havelock North has spread to the Manawatu River. We went in groups and I chose Sa as my partner. We chose Interpret challenge number 3, Interpret challenge number 3 is: If all the NZ native birds died out what would you do and how would you prevent it.

This is the LINK to the project.

Passion Project

For homework we had a task called passion project, I did my passion project with my best friend Sa N. We had to choose a question and our question was: Why does Twinkle Twinkle Little Star sound different when played with a violin and piano duet? We presented it by recording us playing “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star”.
Here is the LINK to the video.

Term Three

This term Lava has done many things like building shelters, making a scale drawing , choosing and creating our unit name.

Building a shelter

We worked in groups of 8. Our shelter was for a hamster.
This is what it looks like

We have three windows and one door. Inside we have one bed, one bathroom, one feeding bowl and we have newspaper in case it gets wet. We have something that looks like a chimney but it's actually a water spout.

Scale drawing

We made a scale drawing. Mostl scale drawings is a smaller version of your model but it could also be bigger. Draw all of your sides. After you drawing all of your sides, draw a 3D version of your model.

You need a scale. For example my scale was 1 to 5cm.

Unit

We've decided the unit name “Environment Investigators”. Our four indicator names are Young reporter, Junior investigator, Senior investigator and Life-time investigator.

We have four areas: Conservation, Renewable resources and Nonrenewable resources, Global warming and Biodiversity
